Shahid Mahmood grew up in Pakistan. He was the editorial cartoonist for the national newspaper in Pakistan, Dawn. Residing in Toronto, Shahid’s work has featured in numerous International publications ranging from Courrier International to the Guardian. His work was viewed by world leaders at the 1997 APEC Conference, enjoyed by John F. Kennedy Jr., and managed to continuously enrage Benazir Bhutto. Shahid is internationally syndicated with the New York Times Press Syndicate and has work archived at the Museum of Contemporary History in Paris. His cartoon exhibition, Enduring Operation Freedom, critical of President Bush’s War-on-Terror, was censored and shut down in 2002; he has received death-threats from Islamic fundamentalists for his depiction of the Taliban as Koran-reading-apes; and he is presently in the midst of a legal struggle to remove his name from the now infamous one-million-person No-fly List. His political cartoons can be viewed at: www.drawnconclusions.com.
